Apple ProRes is an intermediate codec, which means it is intended for use during video editing, and not intended for practical or end-user viewing. The benefit of an intermediate codec is that it retains higher quality than end-user codecs while still requiring much less expensive disk systems compared to uncompressed video.

The Apple ProRes format comes in five versions: Apple ProRes 4444, Apple ProRes 422 (HQ), Apple ProRes 422, Apple ProRes 422 (LT), and Apple ProRes 422 (Proxy). With Mac Apple ProRes video converter, you can convert AVI, DiVX, Xvid, WMV, MPG, VOB, ASF, DVR-MS, RM, RMVB, MOV, QT, MP4, M4V, MKV, DV, 3GP, 3G2, FLV, F4V, MOD, TOD, MXF, MTS, M2TS, M2T, TS, TP, TRP, TIVO, DV videos to Apple ProRes 4444, Apple ProRes 422 (HQ), Apple ProRes 422, Apple ProRes 422 (LT), and Apple ProRes 422 (Proxy).
